The Legacy of Newlyn's Luggers
Luggers have long been the lifeblood of Newlyn’s maritime heritage, serving as the backbone of the local fishing industry for centuries. These traditional sailing vessels, with their distinctive rigging and robust design, were instrumental in the economic development of Newlyn, allowing fishermen to brave the treacherous waters of the Atlantic. The lugger fleet not only symbolizes the resilience and ingenuity of Newlyn’s fishing community but also represents a rich cultural legacy that continues to inspire maritime enthusiasts today. Our mission, to preserve the old harbour, is so that future generations can appreciate the craftsmanship and spirit of these iconic vessels.
